Prayer Apartheid (Part One)

January 5, 2014

I am scolded by religious males on occasion. I was scolded recently when I shared in the essay, Sacrament of Reason (Part Thee), that I had been rejected from several parishes. “Get over it!” was the response. First, I did not share this to whine and complain, or even to criticize ( note the Thank God after it). I shared it to demonstrate that to be rejected, ridiculed, and told to find another parish, because of coming into Spirit Work … is a blessing. It challenges and readies one for specifics gifts, especially when this rejection includes humiliation, heartache and suffering. It’s a significant event–a sort of Holier Communion, or a type of Feast on the Chrismated. Even the scolding  is a Thank God. One must also understand that those doing the rejecting and the scolding may be young, and not of the understanding of Spirit Gifts and how these are brought forth for God Purpose. Patience and the ability to endure is not only of the Essence of the Spirituality of Christ, it is instrumental to the health and well-being of one’s Spirit ID.

100_0757   This is where the Sacrament of Reason will apply, and so one may pray something like …

As all things have a purpose, Lord, what am I to see here? This can lead one to necessary discernment that will allow one to move into an area of learning and teaching … for whatever is shared should always be as much a learning as it is a teaching. And what is “necessary” in this practice, is what will give one the impetus to move into the place of spiritual enlightenment for understanding. So, had this religious not scolded, and had I not been shown to apply necessary discernment in this, I would not have seen the message to share here on SPIR, that writer and reader may gain understanding in the Life (I am the way, the truth and the life …).

Get over it! Now, this is a unique understanding. In moving into Spiritual Awareness, there is a ladder we climb, also understood as a hill or a mountain, or this can be viewed as rugged terrain or rough waters, depending on where one is spiritually. In Wisdom understanding, to get over something is to ignore its pretense– its higher Purpose. Get over it tells you to forget about it. In Wisdom training, we do not want to forget about it. WE want to use it for spiritual gain, which translates into spiritual growth. The Holy Scriptures are full of wisdom teaching on being ridiculed and persecuted. Now, we don’t throw ourselves into turmoil or suffering on purpose, or carelessly, just to experience, or to play at being martyr or saint. Most often while in our youth, we are surprised that others do not see, or hear, but as we apply cool wisdom gained from practice of Holy Reason, we  enter in with an understanding that there is a possibility of being ridiculed, but within these, we are of Spiritual Purpose. Man too often dismisses the one sharing in these experiences, and the necessary teaching in this, because he is too busy lecturing on getting over it. The [it] is not to be wasted or shrugged off. For [it] is a necessary partner in Spiritual Knowledge. Wisdom and Knowledge are the two hands clasped together for Prayer, with Spirit in the forefront … and there is something on which we are moved.

We think of Wisdom (Sophia) as the feminine, our right hand, and Knowledge as the masculine, our left hand. Together these form One solid ideal of fortitude in lifestyle. But really, how does this look internally–spiritually?

I am the way, the truth and the Life. No one come to the Father except THROUGH me.

To come to the Father spoken of in John, one must go through ‘me’. A good question here is: What is me?

Let’s step into another room for a moment. It’s a pink room. Pink is enlightenment. Just as white in the following passage of Revelation means pure; pink has its place in Spirit Symbology. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with ME in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

In the pink room we will begin an understanding on enlightenment. This is our first steps on prayer. On pages 14-15 in Volume Four of The Philokalia, is written … In the texts that follow, from the pen of St Symeon the Studite, the situation envisaged is that of a large, highly organized community such as the Studios monastery itself. The author insists upon strict poverty, the cutting-off of self will, simplicity in personal relationships, the avoidance of all unnecessary complications. He speaks about compunction (katanyxis) as an experience that is not so much penitential as joyful, about the vision of divine light, and about the importance of obedience to the spiritual father–themes which his disciple the New Theologian was later to develop. In a memorable phrase –‘Love is greater than prayer’–the Studite affirms the primacy of love. St Symeon the New Theologian would not have disagreed.

The Studios or Sanctuary envisioned in this sounds interesting, and would be an excellent place to “paint” the interior palace of the New Vision. Just as those who named Symeon the New Theologian for his insight in spiritual theology, we in Spirrealism share in the New Vision, and hope one day to have a place to gather and to pray the necessary Work. However, I do not agree that love is greater than prayer. I do not agree because my experience renders me Love THROUGH Prayer. CS Lewis said in Mere Christianity that Love is God. I couldn’t agree more, but in order to experience Love is God, one must go through Prayer.

On the Spirit  Meditations, mantras, and metanoia aside, we need to understand Prayer as a necessary place of understanding and practice before we can even imagine coming to the Father. A very simple way to view this is to think of being born. One cannot come to the Father until one is born, or, in this case, reborn, as we were born once of the flesh. This rebirth is the return, and it cannot know Love until it has manifested Truth. God’s Word is Truth, therefore it is a product of Love, much like Jesus the Son of God, who is also often experienced and understood as the Word made flesh (Jesus, Truth Prophet, both human and God, which is human and Spirit). This takes us back to the teaching in John: I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Me is experienced and understood as Truth, or the Word. Truth and God’s Word are of One likeness. They are kinetically linked. They are synchronized within Purpose. Where Master says I am the way, He says I am the portrait of Purpose. Where Master says, I am the Truth, He says, I am the Product. Where Master says, I am the Life, He says, I am the God. Where Holy Prayer fits into this trio is the movement in the return through rebirth. It is not ritualistic in Product. The way may contain ritual, for these help to organize placement, but Truth is never ritualistic. Why? Because it harbors what?

Note: I have been told by a few religious that the words spirit and spiritual sometimes make them cringe. I am sure some feel the same about labels like Christian, Christianity and Religion. I will not stop use of Spirit and Spiritual in these writings because I have seen how others take and use apart from God Purpose.
